Visualization Techniques to Detox your Body and Mind
If you're looking for a simple technique to detox your mind, then you should try using Visualization. It is a useful technique to find peace, quiet and inner calm. It can have a beneficial effect on both the body and the emotions.
Choose a quiet place to practice these techniques. Alternatively you can have some quiet music or natural sounds playing in the background. Some people like to hear the sounds of waves or a river.
Lie down on your back and close your eyes. Focus on your feet and how they feel. Now consciously release any tension in your feet, so that they are totally relaxed. Next, focus on your lower legs, and again release any tension that you feel in this area.
Continue this exercise, working your way up through your upper legs, buttocks, back, shoulders and the muscles of the face. Feel any tension drift away as you relax each part of your body.
Now picture an image of a favorite, safe place that you have been to or a place that you would like to visit. Maybe it is a tropical island with white sand and deep blue sea. Bring the mental picture to life by involving all of your senses. Feel the warmth of the sand between your toes and the smell of the sea. Recreate the sounds that you hear and imagine the scene in full technicolor detail, complete with vibrant green palm trees and the azure blue sky.
You can add a short affirmation to your visualization if you wish. An affirmation is a positive statement that is repeated in the present tense. It can be used to affirm the fact that you are totally relaxed at this time. Suitable affirmations could be "I am calm and relaxed", "I am feeling totally relaxed", "I am totally in control and relaxed".
You may need to practice this technique several times before you are completely comfortable with it. But do try it. It is one of the simplest, yet most powerful ways to detox the mind.
