Raw Food Detox Diet
There is a growing interest in the use of raw food as a way of maintaining good health. In fact "raw foodists" eat a diet of only raw foods. Incorporating raw foods into your detox diet makes sense as it will give you a nutritional boost, and you will be eating food in its natural state.
The reason that many people are attracted to raw food is that the cooking process can destroy the natural enzymes and nutrients found in our food. Proteins are denatured and become coagulated. Fats can have their structure changed. If you cook food in water, for instance boiling vegetables, the water-soluble nutrients are lost into the cooking water. This is often thrown out at the end of preparation. By eating food in its raw state the nutrients are preserved
There is a commonly held misconception that to eat raw food you have to be a vegetarian or vegan. While it is true that most people will be eating primarily fruit and vegetables, it is also possible to eat unpasteurized dairy products, eggs and fresh raw fish if you can obtain it.
If you want to eat a raw food diet, you can enjoy vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, sprouted beans and seeds, fresh herbs, sea plants (e.g. kelp and algae) and fish. Ideally your produce should be organically produced. This means that no artificial chemicals were used in its production.
Your detox diet could consist of a breakfast of fresh fruit salad made with a variety of your favorite fruits. For lunch you could prepare a fresh salad including tomatoes, mushrooms, lettuce and sweet peppers. Top with nuts and add an olive oils and lemon juice dressing. For your evening meal you could have stuffed peppers on bed of spinach leaves.
Incorporating raw food into your detox diet is a great way to ensure that you are getting a large amount of nutrients out of your food. Once you have come off of your detox think about eating more raw food on a regular basis.
