Detoxifying Your Body - What to Avoid
There is a whole industry that has grown up around selling people detox diets and supplements. But the major thing that you need to do is to avoid unhealthy foods and drinks for the duration of your detox. This is the best way of detoxifying your body. Here we look at the main things to avoid.
Foods to Avoid
The first thing to cut out is all processed foods and fast foods. Essential vitamins, nutrients and roughage are often lost as part of this processing. Furthermore some processes such as frying can introduce toxins and high levels of saturated fats that are known to clog up the arteries. Quitting junk food is one of the easiest ways to start detoxifying your body.
Other foods to avoid during the detox include red meat and dairy products (including cheese, milk and eggs). Wheat products such as bread and pizza bases should not be eaten either. Many people have an intolerance to wheat and dairy products but are not even aware of it.
Drinks
Avoid alcohol as it puts a lot of stress on the liver, which is the principle organ of detoxification. Caffeine containing drinks such as tea and coffee should also be avoided. Carbonated drinks such as colas and sodas have very high levels of sugar and should not be drunk.
Smoking
If possible you should use your detox to include cutting out smoking. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals, 60 of which are known to be carcinogenic. Giving up the evil weed will release some of the pressure that is being loaded onto your body's system.
By removing these unhealthy substances from your life you can start detoxifying your body and enjoying good health again. Use the one or two weeks of your detox to analyze the type of food and lifestyle that you lead and see if you can make permanent changes such as quitting smoking or avoiding junk food.
