Detox Juices: The Wonder of Wheatgrass
If you've been taking an interest in your health or been planning a detox diet, you may have come across wheatgrass. As this is something that you don't normally find in your average supermarket you may be wondering what it is and whether it can help you in reaching your detoxing goals.
Wheatgrass is widely regarded as one of Nature's superfoods. It contains all the nutrients that we need packed into its green, unassuming shoots. In fact it has been estimated that just 2 ounces of wheatgrass juice provides the same level of nutrients as four pounds of fresh green vegetables.
It is popular as a product to use on a detox because of its powerful cleansing action. It breaks down toxins and removes mucus from the system. There have also been reports that it has been effective in removing carcinogens and helping with patients suffering from cancer.
The best way to use wheatgrass is by juicing it. Some models of masticating juicers will be able to handle grasses but other juicers will not be able to cope with it. Many juicing enthusiast get a special wheatgrass juicer. These are available as inexpensive mechanical devices that you can fit to the side of a table.
To get the optimal nutrition from the plant you should juice the fresh stems. Some health food shops will sell the fresh product but it is quite easy to grow yourself and you'll then have a ready fresh supply to use whenever you need it.
It is quite a strong tasting juice to some people so you may like to mix it with carrot juice or celery juice. Start off drinking small quantities of wheatgrass juice, about one ounce a day, mixed with other juices. You can increase in the future.
