Detox for Beginners: 10 Ways to Cut Down On Toxins

Most people have heard of the benefits that a detox can bring. This usually involves following an intensive healthy regime for two or more days. The aim is to remove toxins from the body. But it is also a good idea to stop toxins building up in the first place. Here are 10 ideas to reduce the chemicals and toxins that could be getting into your body.

1. Eat Organic Food - Fruit, vegetables and meat can all be produced organically. These foods are free from artificial chemicals that are used to preserve the shelf-life or increase the attractive appearance of food.

2. Wash Fruit and Vegetables - this will remove any chemical residues that are on the produce.

3. Filter Tap Water - use a simple jug filter to remove chemicals that are found in the tap water that we drink

4. Exercise - Stress can lead to many chemical reactions in our bodies. Over a long period of time this can be harmful. Doing regular exercise and incorporating techniques such as yoga and meditation into your day has been shown to be very beneficial.

5. Quit the Weed - if you smoke, make every effort to give up. Cigarette smoke has been shown to contain over 4,000 different chemicals, 60 of which are carcinogenic (cancer-causing).

6. Use Natural Household Products - Instead of spraying your house with chemical cleaners and air fresheners, try natural alternatives. For instance, you could try using aromatherapy oils as an air freshener instead of an aerosol.

7. Plants at Home and Work - Studies carried out by NASA demonstrated that certain plants were able to remove toxins from the air such as formaldehyde and benzene. Other studies have shown that people are more productive in work environments where there are plants.

8. Healthy Exercise - try to jog or walk away from built up and congested areas. Try to find open space or a park.

9. Use Sun Protector - Cover your skin from the sun as UV light can produce damaging free radicals. Use sunscreen or cover up with a hat and suitable clothing.

10. Air Your House - Even in winter you should regularly air your house by opening the windows and letting a good flow of refreshing air flow through.
